This brief tutorial shows students and new users how to install the new Microsoft Edge browser for Linux on Ubuntu 20.08 | 18.04.

For those who can't wait for the preview version of Edge (beta) which will be releases in about 6 weeks from today, or the stable version for release next year, they can install it from the dev branch.

The dev channel offers the latest builds available for Linux, but not a stable preview or beta version that's more polished for general testing.

Microsoft promised to bring Edge to Linux so it can be used across every major platform, including Windows, macOS, iOS, Android, and Linux.

Edge will be available in traditional Linux package formats (.rpm, .deb) and will support a wide range of distros, Ubuntu included.

To get the latest dev version of Edge on Ubuntu, simply go to the link below and download the .deb package for Ubuntu.

Then select the Dev branch. If the Beta channel is available, choose that version instead.

After downloading the file, (most likely) in your downloads folder, browse to folder, then right-click the downloaded file and choose to Open With Software Install.

That should take you to the software install page for Edge package. When you click Install button, it should prompt you to enter your password to continue the installation.

Once done, you should be able to go to the Activities dashboard and search for Edge and launch.
